In Rome now - need your help

In Rome with 80 yr old brother. Has done great so far, but running out of steam. Tomorrow we have tickets to do the lower level colosseum tour and I would like to know if there will be a lot of stair climbing. How much total walking?

Thank you so much!

There is an elevator available just ask the tour leader. Once below it’s level and not too much walking. With the main level there’s areas to sit while you listen to the explanations. The elevator doesn’t go to the third tier though.

Have you used the bus and subway system in Rome? It saves a lot of steps and energy. We have gotten a 3-day pass, which makes it even easier to take advantage of the great network the system provides, at a reasonable cost. The only proviso: try to avoid the evening commute hours (~5-7) as it can get uncomfortably crowded.

Thanks everyone. We asked the tour guide about steps before tour started. Elevator took my brother up the two flights of steep steps. Several in our group also took the elevator. Met rest of group at the top. Took stairs back down.

It was a great tour.

Thank you for posting the outcome as it helps others with the same issue.
So glad to hear that you and your brother were able to enjoy the tour. A good memory for you both.
