In Rome - Hotel Sonya versus Hotel Italia

Last minute change of plans - Have reservations at Roma Melia but we decided to be closer to it all. Staying one extra night after cruise.
Both the Sonya and Italia are available

We are middle- aged traveling with my mid-70's parents.

Any comments or suggestions are much appreciated!

Stayed at the Hotel Italia in May of 2007 and loved it. They do have an elevator (though rickety). Very nice breakfast in the dining room and located on a very quiet street with numerous fine restaurants within walking distance. Also half a block from Via Nationale which is a main bus street also. Very nice people at the front desk and does have AC also.

And I could say the identical same thing about the Sonya but not familiar with Italia so I cannot choose for you. Sounds like a toss up. Flip a coin.

Thank you both for great comments - Flipped that coin - and Italia won.

Actually Hotel Italia had a "family room" available and it was in total 150 euro less.

Having stayed at both hotels, the only negative for either is that I don't recall an elevator in the Hotel Italia annex (across the street from main hotel). All rooms at Hotel Sonya have elevator access. If elevator is an important consideration, I'd go with Hotel Sonya or confirm with Hotel Italia that your rooms will be accessable by elevator. Both had helpful, english speaking staffs.

We stayed at the Hotel Sonya July last year. Our first two nights, our room was located at their second sight up the street from the main hotel. The room was very nice, clean and the bathroom had a whirlpool tub which was great because we did a lot of walking. The room had one problem the safe was not attached to the wall or the closet so we had to carry all important documents with us. They do have a great breakfast. Our last night in Rome we stayed at the main location, nice clean room but no whirlpool tub instead it had the smallest shower I have ever seen. Both sites have elevators.
