In Rome from Nov 12th until 15th, 2010 (leaving on the 16th)...

... anyone else in Rome at this time?

I just want to thank those of you that helped me with suggestions for my itinerary last week. I've decided to wait until Monday (my last day) to tour the Vatican museum and stroll thru Rome on arrival day starting at Largo Argentina (after checking into my hotel, freshening up, and eating lunch). I'm keeping most of my other plans intact but pretty much open to spontaneity if the mood arises. I'm just happy to be going back to Rome!

Visit "i gatti" in the cat sanctuary! Such a great mission in such an unbelievable setting! Il Tartarughe (the Turtle Fountain) is not too far away from Largo Argentina, so maybe you'll see that on your stroll. Lovely turtles by Bernini.

Just left there Sunday and already I am missing Roma.

LOL... the cat sanctuary is the main reason I want to go to Largo Argentina. And the turtle fountain is one of my must sees (I have the location marked on one of my maps) because I love turtles. I understand that there is a koa/turtle pond on Isola Tiberina in the hospital courtyard but doubt I would have time to visit. Funny you should mention them. There are a lot of interests I have I don't put on here or mention to friends/family. Everyone keeps on asking me what I'm bringing back for them or telling me what they want. I just don't know how to explain to them, without hurting feelings, that shopping is NOT a priority with me. I'm going to Rome to indulge the senses.

The little things mean a lot don't they? The "big sights" like the Vatican and the Forum turn out to be the ends to the marvelous little experiences and sights we stumble upon. You can go into the Cat Sanctuary volunteer area between Noon and 1800. They sell items to raise money, and will give you a tour of the room for kitties who have debilitating conditions that prevent them from being free. But they get good care and it is a no kill shelter. Life happens on your way to somewhere else. So much fun to have that happen in Rome! I didn't know about the turtles on Isola Tiberina. Next time!

I found out about the turtles at Isola Tiberina hospital courtyard because of a facebook group. And I just thought they were adorable. I love turtles, especially water turtles (I got a water turtle by accident and just couldn't bring myself to get rid of him/her/it), so I tend to be drawn to them. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of things in Rome that people just don't notice or know its there. And the Cat Sanctuary is someplace I wanted to visit last time but didn't know how to find it (5 years ago when I went with a tour I was just so unprepared) so my plan is to visit after lunch for their visiting hours. I'm a big supporter of adoption from shelters (my own cat was the most pathetic cat I had ever seen with a broken tail and if the shelter had had her for even another week or more they would have killed her because she ended up having an infection because of an URI and broken tail which fell off soon after I took her home) so naturally I wanted to visit a famous sanctuary.
