In Need of Itinerary Help

Hello Folks,

I just registered here today but, have been devouring info here and in Ricks Italy book.

We will be in Rome for 5 nights, 22 Sep-27 Sep, 2019. We are staying between Roma termimi and the Colosseo.

Papal audience is booked on morning of 25 Sep and St Peters Scavi tour on 24 Sep at 1115.

The Vatican tours are not bookable until about 90 days out. I didn't know I also needed a time for the Colesseo. Do I?

We are buying the 72 hour Roma pass. Booking website says 23 Sep for Colesseo is not bookable. The best morning times now look like 26 Sep. Afternoons seem open. We are thinking of doing the Colesso in the afternoon.

We want to see the St Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museums, Colesseo, Forum/Paletine Hill, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. We are doing Rick's Heart of Rome and Dolce Vita walks. We also want to visit Trastevere and the Ghetto.

Here's what we have:

22: Arrive from Naples at noon. Check in, eat, relax and do the Dolce Vita Stroll.

23: Open, thinking Trastevere and The Ghetto.

24: Visit St. Peter's Basilica first then, 1115 St. Peter Scavi tour. Pick up Papal audience tix near forum between 1500 and 1800. Rest of afternoon open.

25: Morning Papal audience then, I was thinking of continuing on with with Vatican Museums in the late afternoon.

26: Forum, Colesseo and Palatine Hill.

Can you help with a critique of our itinerary? Are we on the right track? Are we missing something? BTW, wife would rathe pass on Borghese Museum.
We spent last night trying to figure this out and got frustrated and gave up for the night.

Thanks for any help.

Manuel

In response to your question about needing a reservation for the colesseo, if you have the Roma pass then yes, you do need to reserve a time slot. You can do that in person or in advance online / over the phone. Don't miss that part! You also need to get a ticket for the Vatican Museum so do that in advance.

You're doing the right things in your planning. It's possible to over-plan.
