Imperia, Italy???

We had hoped to stay between Genoa and Nice from August 1-4 at an agri-turismo place, but none of them had vacancies. There are few hotels that can accommodate a family of three either. After much research, we've booked a room in a hotel in Imperia, but I know absolutely nothing about this town - it's not written about in any books. Has anyone been there? I am hoping that the water is at least decent for swimming. I've been told that it's almost impossible to get a bad meal in Italy so I expect that Imperia will have some decent food no matter what.

Whoever told you that it was impossible to get a bad meal in Italy is wrong, wrong, wrong. It's a romanticization of the country. There are all kinds of restaurants in Italy, including some really crappy ones.

Beverly,

Google it! I put Imperia, Italy into an advanced search and it came up with a lot of photos and info.

It looks like a nice village! I have to bet you will find good food!

Safe Travels!

Fred Plotkin, author of "Italy for the Gourmet Traveler," describes the province of Imperia as having "beautiful beaches, attractive little seaside towns, and a few ancient hill towns." He recommends the Enoteca Lupi for wine and olive oil. (I bet those guys could recommend a restaurant or two.) He also suggests visiting the olive museum. Apparently, the area is known for agricultural production.

Thanks for all your feedback. We are still deciding whether Imperia will be our last stop in Italy or whether a stay in Santa Margharita Ligure makes more sense. Nice to have such wonderful choices. I will also watch out for the possibility of a bad meal in Italy, and trust my instincts on that one.
