Immediate Help Needed - COVID/British Airways

We are due to check in at 5:00 EST for our flight from Chicago to Milan. British Airways has requested that we upload our CDC vaccination cards. We follow their link, go to manage our travel on BA app and/or website. We fill out all of the requested info but there is no link or way to upload our forms. When we click submit...we of course, get an email that they are waiting for us to upload documents. We have tried 3 different web browsers and the app (and are techy people)...and cannot find a spot to upload them. BA customer service line is so busy they will not take our call and hang up. We live 5 hours from Chicago...so I can't just drive to the airport. We are looking for any help...and greatly appreciate it!

First, don't panic.

I'm not familiar with the specific apps involved (I don't do BA), but there's probably some button or link somewhere on the page that you're missing. Try hitting the "Tab" key (repeatedly) on the page (that should advance the browser's "focus" aka selection through every link, button and option on the page, eventually it should highlight the "upload" link or whatever it's called with British English). At least it's worth a try.

Failing that, find another pair of eyes, ask someone else (see if you can find a teen...) maybe they will recognize it.

If none of that works, remember: having a smartphone or internet-connected computer is probably not (legally) a requirement. If you can't check in online (and plenty of people can't, for various reasons), you can always head to the airport early, and show your required documentation there to a live human. You may (probably will have to) wait in a longer line, but it should still be an option. Get to the airport a full 3 hours (maybe a bit more) before your flight and you should be able to make things work the old school way.

Good luck.

None of our documents successfully loaded to the Delta Airlines site last week when we traveled. We gave up. Just show your documents at check-in.

Do you have the Verifly app? Try downloading it and use it to upload your certificates.

Don’t worry too much about the glitch in BA’s digital site. Because you have an international flight, in any case you will have to show your passport at BA’s check-in desk at the airport in order to get your boarding passes. Along with your passports, just present your CDC cards at the desk and let them do the job the good old-fashioned way.

Thanks for the help! We we unsuccessful by using the "tab" button, no luck with verifly either. We will just leave early for Chicago and show at the BA desk. I truly appreciate all of the responses! Look out Italy...here we come!

You could also check the British Airways forum on FlyerTalk. I believe this has happened to many others.

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/british-airways-executive-club-446/

You can read through without joining.

But I agree with those above who advise that it is OK to show your documents (including passports) at the airport checkin. Arrive a bit early(more than 2 hours in advance).

Hey Laura- Same thing here for us. We will be on that flight as well!! I entered the info but there is no button to actually upload a document. I still submitted it and got an email back that said they couldn't complete our online covid 19 travel documents and to check in for the flight at the airport. I don't think it will cause any issues for when we leave Chicago, but not sure how to go about checking in at Heathrow when we land for our connection flight. Maybe we have to go to the desk at the gate? Or?

You are aware that as of yesterday you are no longer required to show proof of vaccination to enter Italy? That could be why you are having problems.

Nor do you need proof to enter the UK.

When you get to ORD, you should be boarding passes for both flights.

We had a similar problem with Verifly when we were trying to leave Budapest. We just showed up to the airport early with our documents but unfortunately spent our last afternoon of our trip fighting with the app.

Laura- did you get the most recent email from British Airlines about checking in? Doesn't mention having to upload any covid documents.

Hoping that you are correct…since the Covid requirement just changed! I did not get the email but will assume that’s it! See you on the flight Brandon!

Thanks all for you help!!

The short answer for us was just show up early and BA will issue boarding passes at the airport, including the connecting flight. We tried every which way with the VeriFly app on the way over to Italy and the VeriFly app on the way home. I actually started a thread on FlyerTalk because I was so frustrated and got the reassurance I needed, but the most reassuring thing is when you’re holding those boarding passes.

This is a little late to help Laura's issue, but I have found the best way to contact airlines these days of impossible customer service waits is through twitter. I really ONLY use twitter to reach out to airlines and they are usually pretty good at responding within a few hours (without having to wait on hold) and more importantly, they can usually fix issues effectively or give helpful information.

We are on our way to Chicago and did get in touch with BA through Twitter message. We just need to take care of everything once we get to the airport. I love the support from this group. We enjoyed two other trips to Italy with great advice from the people in the forum. Looking forward to this one more than ever…it was scheduled for 2020.
