Il Nido in Sorrento

I have seen alot of positive comments about this hotel but am concerned about the location too far out of town? Did any one find that a major drawback? I'm booked there but am now second guessing myself.

I stayed at Il Nido several years ago with 2 friends (middle aged women) At the time, we were concerned with finding a relatively inexpensive hotel. Il Nido fit our tight budget. The hotel was very clean and comfortable with a great breakfast buffet and spectacular sea views. We had a great dinner there one evening.
There was a free convenient shuttle that worked out well for us. Although I would have preferred to stay in town, the shuttle was not a problem. I don't know if we could have found something in town that was as nice for the money.

We have visited Sorrento each year, spring and autumn, for the last 30 years and have stayed both in and out of town. These days we prefer to stay in town.

The hotel shuttles, and often the local bus, are helpful in getting to town. However, we like the fact that we can return to our accom easily during the day and take an after dinner stroll/drinks, with maybe a little shopping thrown in, around town without worrying about the last bus/shuttle.

There are the less expensive cliff top hotels (Settimo Cielo, La Tonnarella) just outside the centre if you want great views across the Bay of Naples. If you are not worried about views the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel (really a hotel) or one of the many B&Bs/B&B hotels (eg Villa Elisa Casa Vacanze in Piazza Sant'Antonino which has kitchen facilities in the room or Palazzo Abagnale) in town should fit the bill. Have a look at Tripadvisor for the 100 plus places to stay in and around Sorrento.

Where ever you decide to stay have a great trip, only 2 weeks to go (volcano permitting) for us and can't wait!
