Ideas for two days between Venice and Cinque Terre

I need to shorten my Italy trip by 3-4 days and most likely delete my time in the Dolomites and probably Milan. We arrive in Venice where we will spend 5 nights and will move to Cinque Terre shortly after that. Originally, after we departed Venice, we were going to spend 3 days in the Dolomites hiking, returning to Verona where we would spend the day before moving onto Milan, and then Cinque Terre .

To avoid a lot of back tracking and travel time, are there any suggestions for using 2 days between Venice and Cinque Terre. I really wanted to see the mountains, but feel like it will be too rushed.

Where are you going from the Cinque Terre? And what time of year?

Five nights is a lot in Venice. Why not trim it to 4, then head to Milan for 3, making a day trip to Lake Como. You could even stop in Verona for a few hours en route from Venice to Milan.

I will be in Cinque Terre July 1 for 2 nights equating to 2 1/2 days venturing I hope. From there to Florence, Umbria and ending up in Rome. My 5 nights in Venice includes my arrival night, so that day will be a deal with jet lag (well I hope) as we arrive in Venice in the early afternoon. Venice and CT is what my daughter really wants to see, thus explaining the 4- 4 1/2 days in or around Venice. My gut tells me to keep it simple travel through Verona for a day and train to Milan. The two ways to get to CT is either south through Florence or west through Milan; the latter taking much longer in total.

Verona is a great place to spend a couple of days. And only a short train ride from Venice.

Try the culinary adventures of Bologna or Parma

TC is right. Verona is a great little town with lots of sights. Google "verona card" for details. The opera season will have begun, so it will be crowded and it may be hard to get a room this close to your dates. But if you can, and can get tickets to the opera, it's a special experience even if you aren't big fans.

If Verona doesn't work out, it seems to me a better idea to go through Florence to the CT than Milan. Assuming your dates in the CT are not flexible, could you switch and spend the time in Florence before the CT, then extend your stay in Umbria? It's still hard to make good suggestions without knowing where you're staying in the CT or what your planning for Florence and Umbria.

Our 5 nights in Venice will really be a little more than 4 days, which I think will allow for a relaxed visit and wandering. We can visit the surrounding Islands, attend a workshop or two, hear music and if bored take a day trip elsewhere. I will see if The Last Supper Tickets are really available with a tour(the reason for the trip to CT through Milan), and if not I will change and go south and west to Florence before heading to CT. I am going to check out Bologna and Parma as suggested by a respondent.
