We will be in Florence for nine nights at Christmas. Anyone been during this time and have suggestions on fun things to do? We have been during summer a few times and are excited to enjoy Florence during Christmas time.
Shopping and Watching nicely decorated shopwindows, churches also have a very special atmosphere. Lovely Christmas market oltrarno. With children, the befana on 6th January.
Reserve restaurants on xmas and xmas eve, many are closed. New year is easier.
Like the previous poster suggests, make dinner (and lunch) reservations now. We were there last year over new years. I had made reservations at Buca Mario (steakhouse) a few months ahead of time. As we walked in the street was packed with people trying to get in. Other restaurants were also packed.
I found Florence to be the most crowded of all the cities we visited over the holidays. On New Years Eve, the Piazza della Signoria is where people gather and it gets pretty active.
