Hi, my family of 5 (kids 7, 10, 13) is planning a trip to Italy in August 2014. We plan to spend about 4 nights in Rome and then travel to visit with family in Split, Croatia for a week. I know travel with our kids will be fun/intense in Rome and I feel we will need to have a change of scenery and pace after Rome (and before we go to Split). I would appreciate any suggestions as to places to stay/things to do between our Rome and Split destinations. Someplace in the country where the kids can roam free a bit and maybe have a swimming pool? I've heard cool things about agriturismo B&Bs and that may be a good option for us. Seems like many of those are located in Tuscany and I'm not sure of the distances or how we'd travel there. One key factor is that I want to be in a convenient location to then travel to Split (preferably by air). Thanks,
Katie
Abruzzo and Umbria come to mind. In Abruzzo you can stay in an agriturismo in the mountains or stay by the ocean at Roseta, for example. I have no idea on flights, but maybe from Pescara you can fly to Split. As to Umbria, no ocean but there are many agriturismi. You'd probably have to return to Rome to fly out.
