Ideal Dolomite Towns for 2 Week Stay in July

Hello,
We are seeking recommendations for Historic and Beautiful towns in the Dolomites.

We will have a car and will be hiking (moderate hikes). Would love to do some swimming. Would prefer to select two locations (one per week), but would consider one location for two weeks.
We prefer staying in home rentals that are outside of the busy spots but within a 15 minute drive of grocery store (s) that offer a good variety because we prepare our own meals.

Thank you!

Are you hiking and if so, at what level? Will you want to have a car or remain car-free? One town for two weeks or multiple stays of a few nights?

Groceries again? Do a Google Maps search of the region and let the grocery stores be your guide to where you stay. Best of luck as you may find a CONAD or Despar in the region as your only choices for "good variety".

The Val Gardena, either Selva, Santa Cristina, or Ortisei, makes a great week or two. Second location for variety, look at San Candido and environs. We stayed in tiny Moso and liked it but shopping is quite limited.

I suspect the ideal town is going to be the one where you can find a vacancy in July. Having a car will be helpful, because you won't be limited to places with the most convenient public transportation links, but still I fear it may be challenging.

We spent a wonderful week in Ortisei a few years ago. We also stayed a few days in Cortina d'Ampezzo but preferred Ortisei.
