I stayed at "in bacio a Firenze" and here's what happened

Boy, sometimes adventure is not always fun. We paid a tad more than last time to try a new place. No place for suitcases but the floor, toilet iffy, water damage and very mildewy walls and air. Make your own bed surprise. Sign above washer dryer for staff. Were handed a contract in Italian. We asked to leave, and owner said it was up to booking.com (guess what they said?). Owner said making bed was a law and on their website (why do people say that when you can show them immediately?) There was a sign over the washer/ dryer that said staff only and he said that was of right.

We are going to swallow the loss and go to the old place.
My granddaughter was too allergic to stay.

Owner said it was the agency's call and they said it was his. Was there anything else we could have done?

You might share this on Trip Advisor. Others seemed to have liked it, but not many reviews.
Since it is an apartment, making your own bed seems reasonable. Washer and dryer "staff only" seems to be misleading by the owner as they list these as available to guests. As far as being mildewy, some might shrug and say "you get what you pay for" and others, like you, would find it totally unacceptable.

What is a "bacio" in Florence? Did you rent an independent apartment that didn't measure up? What did the reviews say?

Question - Did they expect you to actually put the sheets on the bed when you arrived, or did they just not provide someone to come in daily to make your bed up? Renting apartments means making your own bed daily, but I would expect it to be made when I arrived. It's too bad that the washer and dryer weren't available to you if you were expecting them to be. I was looking at the booking.com listing a didn't see mention of them.

The reviews are good, so I can see why you were disappointed. I've rented a couple of places with great reviews that were a letdown. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

Thanks all, for the replies.
Yes, The beds were unmade, and the notice said it was the law.
Interestingly my credit card would have supported us, had we left immediately.
Yes, I carelessly typed the name.
What made us hate the place was lying. You can't act like you just found out and then do nothing when mold on the walls is visable. A bleach spray would have helped. When we said we wanted to leave he called this high season and said there would be no place. I had the site on my phone and counted twenty aloud. His reaction told us to disbelieve anything else.
Tonight we'll be in a place we were before.
The website said we'd be offered breakfast on the host today. No word from the host .
Yes, goodbye moths, mosquitoes, no screens.

It was a comfort that we had done all one can. We're losing one night but we'll sleep well without the mold.
Signing off

We are back with the folks at Family Apartments. A world of difference around the corner from, well, minor trauma. My granddaughter is off of the allergy stuff we had to get.

It seems there is such a law as no bedmakingbif you aren't a hotel. It is confusing, as it is not applied evenly. Of course, I doubt that there are sheet police who raid apartment rentals looking for sleeping scoundrels!

Thanks, all, for being there.

The washer is listed on the TA listing, but not the dryer--Andrea.

I've never seen screens in Europe. If you have had them before, that's quite unusual.
The pictures show no tables except the small nightstands and the dining table, so indeed suitcases on the floor, which is difficult if one is older or had back problems. I've been in plenty of apartments where I had to put my suitcase on the floor, couch or lift it onto the bed if I needed something. Obviously, you weren't expecting this inconvenience.

What the owner said about making the bed being against the law reminds me of tall tales my Italian friends here tell. It's kind of cultural.

Let booking.com know of the mold issue and lack of promised breakfast. They may give you a refund for your unused days.

Good luck.
