We'd like to wake up in Florence, drive through Genoa, and sleep in Milan. How workable is that? Can someone estimate driving time? What will we miss if we "zip" through like that? It's a part of the country we want to see, but would prefer to spend more time in Milan and Florence that that area I just mentioned.
Not very. ViaMichelin can give you estimated travel times, but you'll be driving a long roundabout route that, frankly, isn't that scenic. And driving through Genoa is a nightmare.
Melody,
I have to agree with the previous post regarding driving through Genoa. It's not a particularly "scenic" city so not the best for driving. Is there a particular reason you want to visit Genoa?
The same trip would probably be more relaxing and less stressful by train.
Note that for driving in Italy, all drivers will need the compulsory International Driver's Permit, which must be used in conjuntion with your home D.L. IDP's can be obtained at any AAA office for very reasonable cost.
