I made a mistake! :-(

So, I'll be staying in Florence April 14 and checking out April 17. I have made many online reservations for while I'm there such as The Academia and The Duomo Museum. Well, I'm not certain where my head was BUT I made a 10:00 am reservation for The Academia AND an 11:00 am Reservation for the Duomo Museum. Does that leave enough time to see David at least? Will I enter The Academia at 10:00 am as my ticket time says or is that not guaranteed? I'm thinking about buying another ticket to allow me more time to see all Art and not just David. Newbie mistake, for sure!

Well Eve, that is tight but might work. The two sites are not too far apart. My suggestion would be to arrive early, and then see if you can talk your way in before your scheduled time. That might work if they're not too jammed. Another possibility is that maybe you can get your hand stamped, or something like that, to return to the museum later in the day. Academia is quite small, as I remember soon after entering you go down a wide corridor which exhibits Michaelangelo's unfinished "Captives" sculptures, and then culminates with David. Those are the most spectacular pieces, although there are additional galleries with paintings, antique musical instruments, etc. Unless you find you really need to commune with David for an extended period, you might find that 40 or 45 minutes is adequate.

Yes, if they let you in on time, there may be a line even with a reservation, you will have plenty of time to see The David and see the rest of the museum. It is a very nice but small museum and only one floor. You won't have time to stand and really look at everything but you can walk through it and still enjoy it. Just find out where the two museums are before hand so you give yourself enough time to get to the Duomo Museum. I have been on to Florence several times and except for the David at the Academia it really is just a nice museum. The Bargello museum is my favorite in Florence! That is the museum to see! Did you make your reservation for the Uffizi Museum, that is a must see too when in Florence. But my all time favorite is the Bargello museum. In my opinion, if you had to make a mistake and it happens, better with the Acdemia first and then the Duomo Museum. Have a great time.

Maybe and this is just maybe, get there a bit earlier and maybe they will let you in earlier.

We all make mistakes like that just buy another ticket if you are not satisfied after this unfolds

The amount of time I have to look at this David (read left) in the mirror each morning can't be short enough. However, Michelangelo's David is a far more beautiful thing and I think you may prefer more time to linger admiringly.

Could you email one of them and ask for a time change? Never hurts to try.

The Accademia museum is not just one floor, but if you are only interested in the Michelangelo sculptures, 45 minutes might be enough, assuming you get in on time.

The Museo dell' Opere del Duomo might be easier to exchange for a later time, it doesn't get the traffic that the Accademia does.

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I have a reservation for the Uffizzi at 1:30. I plan to also see the Bargello! I can't wait! Only a month to go now! So nervous about trains, etc. But researching the heck out of everything!

Was FASCINATED by the captives.....had to buy the Michelangelo coffee table book. I also loved (and took photos off) a room chock full of smaller sculptures; (many shelves, floor to ceiling) & used it as a theme for that years Christmas letter...sometimes there is just too many riches to show it all at once. Seems to me we had 9am rexervations? we were 1st in line when the doors opened & had david, etc, all to ourselves for a bit

You learn more by planning your own trip than paying for an organized tour planner to plan a trip for you. Did you make your reservations on the official Italian B-ticket website? These reservations are not changable but if you made your reservations on another ticket selling website, you might be able to change the times. I say just go to the Academia at 10am. Spend whatever time you spend there. Only loosely pay attention to the passage of time. Show up at the Duomo museum late, see if they let you in. When you get to the museum official who you show your information to, shrug, point to the time on your copy of your reservation confirmation for the academia, then point to the time on your Duomo confirmation - remember to print your reservation confirmations, put then in a ridgid plastic folder, and pack them in your travel bag - turn one or two empty hands so that your palms are horizontal and facing upward, and say in Italian something like, "I'm late. Poor planning. My fault." Then see what happens. If you miss the Duomo, Florence looks like it has plenty of other art and historic buildings.

I have never been to Itlay. I will be in Florence in July. Tell us how your trip was.

Thanks, Mike! I've planned my entire trip! I had a past life as a travel agent, I feel. It's been so much fun buying rail tickets, booking reservations, etc. So I pretend (not really) to be a dumb American? Lol
