I am looking for the best restaurants in Bologna?

I've heard Bologna has some of the best food in Italy. I've spent about 2 hours there in 2009, and didn't have a chance to eat. I would love to here about a good restaurant in this under-rated city.

I would recommend Tinello. I've eaten there a couple times and not been disappointed. In fact, the fresh tortellini al balsamico (home made tortellini marinated in balsamic vinegar) is probably among the best 3 or 4 things I've ever eaten in Italy - and I've lived here for 10 years now, so that's saying a lot.

Easy to find - as you're facing the Two Towers, it's just to the left (the little side street on the left, Via de Giudei #1).

There is also a famous gelateria called Gelateria Gianni which many people say is the best in Italy. You can probably google it and get the address, it's just off the main piazza.

I usually wander about and look for places where there are a lot of locals eating. Since Bologna is not a terribly touristy town, that won't be too hard. If there is a line to get in, even better! Start at the Piazza Maggiore and radiate out from there. You will have your best time in Bologna just walking the streets and getting lost. You won't find many of the usual tourist shops like Rome, Venice, and Florence have. The shopping was pretty good and unique, but you have to seek it out. That's where getting lost comes in handy. I want to go back!

Not sure it's the best but we thought it was really great--Ristorante da Cesari. Veal with truffles, roasted potatoes, great house wine...I'd go again! It was recommend by our hotel staff--I'd ask the locals to find out where they'd go!
