On a pevious post, someone suggested this. The websites says it takes about 20 minutes. Is it going to be a problem with luggage? An idea of how much it will cost? Would we need reservations in advance?
The hydrofoil costs 11 Euros one-way and operates year-round, except when cancelled due to bad weather. It departs from the Molo Beverello near Piazza Municipio and the Angioino Castle by the waterfront.
ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION:
Circumvesuviana commuter rail from the underground platforms of Napoli Centrale Train Station. Trains run every 30 minutes throughout the day, take 65 minutes, and cost 3.40 Euros one-way.
Depending on your origination point in the city of Naples, the Circumvesuviana rail may actually be more convenient than taking the hydrofoil. If arriving in Naples by train, the Circumvesuviana is definitely more convenient, since it's located downstairs. If arriving at the Naples airport, the Alibus airporter bus (3 Euros) goes to both the central train station and to Piazza Municipio (Beverello Port).
The Circumvesuviana might be more convenient, but it's nowhere near as much fun as the hydrofoil.
