We are wanting to take the hydrofoil to sorrento from Naples. We will be arriving by train from Rome and taking a taxi to the port. So far I have found little information on where, how, when to book. I found one website, www.snav.it, in italian. The website has many technical issues when trying to book. Is it recommended to book in advance? The snav website was 24 euros p.p. Round trip, plus whatever luggage charge will be (thats when the website crashed) So my main question is, should we book in advance, and any general directions to get to a ticket office at the port? Any tips and help is much appreciated
Did the Naples-Sorrento hydrofoil for a day trip to Sorrento/Ravello. The hydrofoil (any kind of boat) is far more pleasurable the the Circumvesuviana, which is moderately interesting the first time, but by the third trip I grew to hate it. I did not make reservations for the hydrofoil, or any ferries that I took around the Bay of Naples. I just checked the schedule and showed up. Not a problem, and my trips were during Summer. I had no luggage. The only downside of the hydrofoil, versus a regular ferry, is that on the hydro you can't sit outside and the widows don't give much of a view. I would compile a schedule for hydros and nonhydros for the entire day (post your landing time), just so that you will have options if your plane is late. Also, there is a ferry connecting Capri to Sorrento so you could always get to Sorrento that way. Here is a company's schedule that I found online during the boring basketball game I've was watching just now.

Thanks for the info so far. We are arriving at Naples train station at 13:10 June 28th
We arrived from Palermo on an overnight ferry at 6AM. Found the ticket booth for the hydrofoil to Sorrento and bought a ticket. Got on no problem. We had 2 bike cases and 2 pieces of luggage, no issues at all. I don't remember paying extra for luggage. The tickets are bought in the cafe right by the docks. Just check the schedule and get on...they board quickly, and leave quickly. When you arrive in Sorrento, you can walk from the dock to the main part of town, or there is a taxi stand there.
Buy your rdtrip or one way tix at the port. That is what we did from Sorrento-Capri-Sorrento but be aware I believe it may stop service bef 6 pm due to cruise traffic.
So if a late schedule is what you are planning it may not work. You could ck with Naples office of tourism since you are having difficulty w/ SNAV.
