I plan to hike in the Dolomites for 4 nights/5 days in early July. I have accommodations for my first and last night in Cortina d"Ampezzo. I'd like suggestions for a hiking itinerary including two refugios to stay in for the second and third night. I will be hiking solo and am used to "moderately strenuous" conditions. I'd like to make reservations for the refugios soon to assure myself overnight accommodations as I understand some of them fill up fast.
Nancy, I would like to help but I am not familiar with the huts in that area (Cortina). If no one here can answer, you might consider getting a copy of one of the Cicerone guides to hiking in the Dolomites by Gillian Price. Amazon carries them, but I believe I bought one of mine at the bookstore on Bainbridge Island. One is "Shorter Walks in the Dolomites" which covers day hikes. I don't recall the title of the one covering hut to hut; it may be "Walking in the Dolomites" since it is written by a British woman. but you should be able to find it by the author's name.
Lola: thanks for responding. In fact I have that book and am finding it helpful. It's a challenge to figure out how best to combine her suggested hikes so as to put together a hut to hut itinerary.
