I am going to be hut hiking in the Dolomites in July. I am planning on arriving in Cortina on the 10th and hiking for 4 full days. I am an experienced hiker and would like to do 10-15 miles a day. I would love any advice on routes to take with amazing scenery as well as the best refugios to stay in. Ideally it would be a loop beginning and ending in Cortina but anywhere I could catch the train to get back to Venice or Rome depending on my flight out would be awesome.
We have hiked quite a bit in the Val Gardena and some in the Sesto area, but not Cortina. I have relied on two sources for planning hikes: Cicerone guides (available from Amazon.com) and the local TI. You might write to the TI in Cortina for advice. I recently did this for an area in Austria and they sent some excellent local info to plan my adventure.
Laurel beat me to it! You need a copy of the Cicerone guide to walks in the Dolomites by Gillian Price. She has written three, but I believe this is the one that includes walks from Cortina:
