Hut Hiking Alpe di Siusi

My husband and I plan to visit Alpe di Siusi next July and want to do some hut-to-hut hiking. We prefer either self-guided or a private guide as we like to set our own pace. Can anyone recommend an individual or company who might help us plan an itinerary? I suspect we'll want 2 or 3 nights in a hut with a hotel/B&B stay on either end. We typically hike 6-7 miles a day with about 1200 ft. elevation. Thanks in advance for your help and any other advice you care to offer! Happy trails!

In the "Travel Partners" section of this forum, Kate posted on 8/27/12: Hut-to-hut trekking in Italian Dolomites, Sept 13-16. Maybe send her a personal message to see if she has some info for you on her trip. Hope this helps.

I was searching the web for bike or hike tours...self guided and found this company. Haven't used them yet, as I am doing research for next year. You might want to check them out. The pricing seems good, and they offer self guided. http://www.macsadventure.com/us/index.php

Barbara, there are two nice 3-day hut to hut walks up at Alpe di Siusi. One is up to Rifugio Bolzano from Compatsch for your first night, then hike over toRif. Alpe di Tires for the second, then back down to the road at Saltria and return by bus. There are nice inns at both ends of this walk. ( Check out BerghotelZorzi Zorzi for one possibility.). The ascent to Rif. Bolzano is around 750 meters,ma bit more than you ask, but you can skip part of that by riding a lift. The other is a circumambulation of Sasso Longo and Sasso Piatto the other end of Alpe di Siusi. There are a number of huts along the route as well as the possibility of doing a figure 8 through the valley that separates these two peaks- something of a moonscape. Rif. Toni Demetz is there. Mi would not attempt an accentor descent to this hut from the east, but there's a gondola. The western approach is fine, but that is the moonscape. This walk is covered in the Guidebook "Walking in the Dolomites" by Gillian Price. ( I bought mine from Amazon.). Again, there are hotels at the beginning/ end of this loop in Saltria. Check out Berghaus Zallinger for something unique and rustic ( especially if you like horses).
