Michael, I just watched a news report on that topic on the Italian News channel. The fire appeared to originate with electrical equipment, which is not surprising given the hot weather. Based on my long employment with the power company, my guess would be a Transformer problem. There were also reports from Milan and other points in Italy, describing the disruption in rail services in various parts of Italy. One of the "live" reports was from Termini, and it looked like chaos! Passengers were complaining that little information was provided by authorities on the cause of the problems, nor was much assistance provided. Hopefully this will be cleared up soon. Another report on the same broadcast described the "trash emergency" in Naples and other parts of southern Italy. From what I could determine, some areas have been cleaned up. Cheers!
