We have 2 1/2 days and 2 nights to spend between an agriturismo in Chianti and Bologna. We will have a rental car and will have spent 4 nights in Florence. Trying to decide if we should go to Monterosso al Mare or to the Parma/Modena area. One issue is that the car rental is due at the Bologna airport around 1:30 pm which would require leaving Monterosso by 9 am.
How much time is given to Chianti and to Bologna? Are you planning to visit Parma and Modena on a day food tour?
Monterosso would be a nice contrast.
We have 5 nights in agriturismos after Florence. We would probaby just visit a balsamic estate and Parmesan farm on our own. Would probably stay in a country house near Emilia Reggio. Agree Cinque Terre would be a contrast but is one full day worth it?
With only 2 and half days I would say Chianti OR Emilia, not both. Are two different areas, different food, different architecture... For both areas there is plenty to do for at least a week.
If you have just decided for 5 days in Florence you can decide to do a daily tour in Chianti from there and then move to Emilia and spend a couple of nights there.
The friends we’re traveling with really want the 5 nights in the countryside- we’re spending 3 near Pienza and 2 near Greve in Chianti. They’d like to see Cinque Terre, just hope there’s not a super rushed drive to Bologna.
Anyone reports on the road between Monterosso al Mare and Parma? The map makes it look very winding.
