How would May 1st(Italian Labour Day) effect either an Amalfi Coast or Capri day trip from Sorrento?

I will be in Sorrento from 4/29-5/3 with 4/29 and 5/3 being travel days so not good opportunity for day trip. Currently I have 4/30 scheduled for Pompeii + possibly Heracleum or more time in Naples due to Pompeii being closed on May 1st. That leaves May 1st and 2nd for Amalfi Coast and Capri day trips. Would one reasonably be effected by the Holiday more than the other? Trying to read up on the subject has churned up few results mostly people just mentioning that public transportation would be more limited than usual but I was assuming since both of these are extremely touristic they would still be doable. Side Note- I cannot afford a private driver for the Amalfi Coast and am sure they would be much more expensive on the holiday as well. Plan was to take the earliest bus from Sorrento to Positano, spend however long that is desired then bus to Amalfi, spend time again, then bus to Ravello and walk back down to Amalfi and finally hopefully catch a Ferry all the way back to Sorrento if running/weather is permitting, if not then Bus back to Sorrento. I have read other entries on this forum that this 3 town itinerary is doable on a normal Day but once again cant find anything specifically about May 1st.

Would be willing to do AC or Capri either of the two days just unsure which would be better. My intuition would be to see how the weather is and choose the best weather day for Capri? In hopes to be able to do the Grotto? Any information would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

Check the RS recommended Mondo shared tours for the AC drive, the prices are quite reasonable. You really don't want to use the bus- it's very crowded, and often buses don't stop if they have no room for more passengers. This past May, we saw folks in very long lines at those SITA bus stops.
Most folks here say the Blue Grotto is a tourist trap and not worth it.
Check to see if May 1 is a holiday from work, if so places will be extra crowded. As we found out, May is no longer shoulder season, the crowds are in the area in full force in the spring.
Have a great trip!

Forget the Blue Grotto and enjoy exploring Capri.
We took a Mondo tour to Pompeii, adequate but not outstanding.

I visited friends in Naples for the long May 1st weekend this year. The only thing we had to watch was when the ferries were leaving since one schedule didn't begin until May 1st. Just check and see the schedules. It was very busy (lots of Italians since it is a holiday).
