Hi All,
This is my first post so I'll try to be to the point. Based on Rick's glowing review of Vernazza my wife and I were thinking of staying there when we visit Cinque Terra this summer for a few days. But then I heard about the October flood/landslide. How has the area rebounded? Is it still worth staying at? Thanks! Dan
Dan, Vernazza is certainly not completely back to normal, but they're now open for the 2012 season and very anxious to welcome visitors back. The residents there will need as much support as possible, so hopefully people WILL return this year. You may find it helpful to have a look at the Save Vernazza website. For a list of the businesses that are currently operating, Here's a list (this will change as businesses re-open, so check back from time-to-time). I believe Rick is in the area now (late April), so there will be likely some further uppdates forthcoming within the next few days (and possibly a few iPhone videos). The trail from Vernazza to Monterosso has now re-opened, and the famous Via dell'Amore (Riomaggiore-Manarola) is also open. Happy travels!
