I am looking for more information on how to visit the Domus Tiberiana. I understand it's in the Palantine Hill area, so is it included in the Colosseum/Palatine/Forum ticket or is there an extra ticket for entrance? I would love to hear from anyone who has visited it and would share how they did it and what they thought. Thank you!
Belinda, I haven't seen it personally - have not made a return visit to the Palatine since this domus became available for viewing - but as far as tickets go, you are right that it is one of the S.U.P.E.R sites in the Palatine area. The standard-entry ticket for the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine does not cover these sites but there's an add-on to that ticket for these sites for only € 4.00.
OR, if you aren't visiting the Colosseum, you can purchase a ticket JUST for the Forum+Palatine+S.U.P.E.R. sites+ Imperial Forum for € 18.00.
Do note the days and hours that these sites are open; those for Domus Tiberiana (exhibition rooms) are currently
3 October - 29 February > 9.30am - 3.30pm (last entry 3pm), closed on free entry days. I would imagine those will be updated at some point for the spring season. Hopefully someone who has visited recently can fill you in on additional details!
I was there in October. I got early tickets to the Forum from the online site, and it was straightforward to also add the extra bit for that.
The site itself was interesting for me -- I have been to the Forum many times over the years, and was never able to go there. The remnants of the church frescoes on the lower level were the most interesting part of it for me. It was also nice to have a new way to get to the Palatine from the Forum, rather than only having the path up from the Arch of Titus.
I wouldn't call it a spectacular new addition, but it's definitely worth it if you were already planning a trip to the Forum.
Thank you so much for the great info!
