How to travel from Milan to Florence?

Hi there, Is it easy to do a day trip on our own from Milan to Florence on September? Which train station to get off at Florence to visit Duomo, Palazzo Medici Riccardl and etc... Any additional tips would be greatly appreciated.

Also any tips for day trip from Milan to Venice?

Thanks,
Jason

A day trip to Florence from Milan.....why?
Can it be done, yes. You'll change trains in Bologna, total travel time one-way, is approx 2hrs depending on train-type.

Should you do it...depends on what you plan on doing and seeing. Considering you're spending a total of 4hrs minimum just sitting on the train traveling, could your time be better spent visiting closer destinations to Milan? ...or, plan to spend 1-2nts in Florence.

Same applies to Milan-to-Venice....a day-trip would be a waste, train travel time is 2hr 30min, one-way.
