Most hotels tell you how to reach them on their websites. Double click on the small map in the link, the directions look very easy (just two streets to remember)

"By train
Hotel Burchainti is located in Via del Giglio, 400 meters away from the train station
Santa Maria Novella."

How will you get to the Hotel Ala when you arrive?

Will you be taking the vaporetto from either a bus transfer or a train transfer? Or will you be using a water taxi?

When we know how you are getting to the Ala it will help a lot giving you directions to go to the station.

By the way, how many days will you have in Venice - will you have time to experience the vaporettos?

Per Hotel Ala website, hostess fare $ 80 euro if I prepay in advance, correct. Is this the water taxi but discount due to pay in advance. If so, we might consider this option. Compares to take Alilaguna $ 30 euro for 2 ppl.

Are you referring to when we departing from Venice to Florence, we might take vaporetto from bus/train transfer (since we would experience the water taxi on arrival day).

3N in Venice, although we won't arrive at our hotel till supper, so half day is gone. possible to walk around after our dinner. What might be a good walking route for us and how to spend rest of 2 full days.

PS, i visited Venice 14 years ago, I remember I did ride on vaporettos.

Thanks a lot.

So, apparently you are flying into Venice, but haven't yet decided between the water taxi or the Allilaguna. Either way, you'll be dropped at the S. Maria del Giglio dock. It's only a couple of minutes walk up a narrow Calle to the hotel. Look it up on Google Maps.

To leave Venice, walk back to that dock and ride the Vaporetto back to S. Lucia stop, where the train station is located.

To find out how to get to your hotel in Florence, look it up in Google Maps. Enter your hotel name, then select directions and enter SMN. It will show the route between the 2. With step by step directions.

It wouldn't hurt to get a copy of RS Italy guidebook. He gives pretty clear instructions on how to get around within and between cities. The book also has some basic maps. As well as information on what to see while you're there.

Hotel Ala is next to S. Maria del Giglio dock, which is served by Vaporetto line 1 (the slower route making all the stops) and will get you to the Ferrovia (train station) stop in about 40 minutes with no walking or connections. Direction of travel is toward Piazzale Roma. Check schedules on the dock in advance. Note that some boat might possibly be making a shorter run and then would announce their last stop verbally and/or on the signs.

Looking at the Hotel Ala website it looks as if they have their own private water taxi door to the hotel. Reading your questions...it appears as if you are very unknowledgeable about the whole Venice Transport system and options. In that case you should just hire a water taxi to take you from the hotel direct to the Venice Santa Lucia train station. Have the hotel arrangement the water taxi.

Or invest a little time in studying the system so you know next time you go to Venice.
