How to Tip in Italy

I am heading to Italy with a total of 12 people. I am concerned how to handle the tipping for a few different situations as I do not want to offend. Hoping somebody has a few suggestions or rules to follow for the following situations;

  1. Restaurants
  2. Tour Guides
  3. Taxi

I appreciate everyone's help

Just use the search function. It is discussed on this site forever. I tip in the range of 8 to 10% across the board. Round up, leave the loose change on the table - etc. Sometimes a service charge will be added. If there are 12 of you, make absolutely certain you have reservations (that is more important than tipping) and do not expect to sit together as a group.

you don't need to tip. you can always leave a rounded amount, but tipping is not required.

I'm not a fan of tipping, and am glad that us Americans haven't overwhelmed Europe with tipping yet. (Don't get me wrong, I'm all for paying my share. I just believe that the cost of the item should already include decent wages for staff.)

Restaurants

Zero. The table rounds up, not the customer, and it's not that common.

Tour Guides

Zero, but those working only with English speaking tourists will make you believe everybody tips.

Taxi

Less than zero! Drivers own the cab license in Italy, and one license is worth not less 50,000 Euro!

This is how much locals tip. What to do next is up to you. How much you like double standards ?

What Dario said. Spot on. And notice that he lives in Italy.
