How to spend an evening in Rome?

Hello everyone,

My friend and I are reaching Rome at around 5 in the evening and are leaving for Amalfi the next day. I would love to hear your suggestions as to how to best spend that one evening in Rome. What are the sights and good pubs/places to eat that could be visited? We are staying in the Trastevere area. Would you suggest a different area to look for a hotel/hostel for the night?

Regards
Rahul

Hi Rahul. Look at the 13 replies to my question about travel from Fumicino Airport to Civitavecchia Port a few post below. Most of the replies recommend an overnight in Rome and some activities. Enjoy!

Hi R.D,
Thank you for directing me there. Found a couple of good pointers. But more suggestions would be welcome. :)

Take an evening stroll from Trastevere to Campo de' Fiori by crossing the Ponte Sisto and walking straight up Via dei Pettinari. deviating to Open Baladin for a beer, since you mention pubs. From CdF, follow the Rick Steves walk (it's in his book) to Piazza Navona. the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and end at the Spanish Steps. Somewhere along the way -- but not too early! -- stop at a trattoria for dinner. You can easily head to Piazza del Popolo from the Spanish Steps. From wherever you end, take a taxi back to Trastevere.

Or you could go back to Trastevere for a lovely pizza at Dar Poeta after you take your walk.

I second Laurel's suggestion! We were just there last week. We loved the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Trevi at night. So easily walkable and pleasant. Enjoy!

Definitely ditto Laurel's suggestion. Also include the RS audio tour (probably also in print, in his book) for the Pantheon. I've used it each of the 3 times I've gone there!
