How to see Amalfi Coast, Paestum in 1 or 2 days

We are going to Italy next week. Flying into Venice, out of Rome--be in Italy 13 days. I am trying to figure out how to see Amalfi coast and Paestum.

We would go on Monday, return to Rome Tuesday.

Is there a tour we could catch in Rome that would take us there?
I know there are private car tours, but they are ultra expensive.
Not sure how to go--Sorrento to Salerno to Paestum, or what?

Thanks.

There are several direct trains a day from Naples to Paestum, and back. In the 60 to 90 minute range. My own plan in May is to make it as a day trip from Naples, leaving in the morning, stopping for a couple hours to visit Salerno, then on to Paestum for the afternoon. I've read that the late afternoon hours are the best at Paestum. Then back to Naples for dinner. I suppose you could do something similar from Rome if you wanted, just adding on the Rome-Naples train trip, making for a long day. I think doing this via Sorrento would be either extremely long and difficult, or impossible.

Think I misread your post before. You want to visit both Paestum and the Amalfi Coast over two days, is that right? I see there are even some trains direct from Rome to Salerno in 2 up to about 3 hours. So, you could go Rome to Salerno and then connect on to Paestum, return to Salerno, and then cover the Amalfi coast by some combination of boat, weather permitting, and bus, ending in Sorrento. You could spend the night either in Salerno, in Sorrento, or in between. Then return Sorrento to Rome the second evening. Or I suppose you could do that loop in reverse. Good luck, and do report back!

Thanks, Larry. The boats (Traghetti) won't run until April and we go next week. We will take your advice--we had thought about that.
