how to retrieve Trenitalia ticket while in Austria?

I hope someone can help me with this ....

I purchased a train ticket from Villach (Austria) to Venice, using the Trenitalia website. This is for travel coming up on 26 September. But when I received the confirmation email it says I need to "self-service" pick up my ticket .... "print your ticket from a Self Service machine in Italian stations".

But how am I supposed to do that when my departure point is in Austria??? I was expecting I would just get an electronic ticket in my confirmation email.
Help!

You can only pick up your tickets in an Italian train station unless you choose the ticketless option. You might want to email trenitalia to see if they can send you a link for your tickets. If you didn't choose the ticketless option you may be out of luck.

I have not yet heard of anyone managing to work around this mistake, but contacting Trenitalia is your only hope. Last time I looked, international tickets are not sold as Ticketless or Print at Home; they are only sold for pick up in an Italian station and this is noted during the purchase process.

If you registered on the Trenitalia site, that might help; in any case, if you have anything that identifies your ticket, the Trenitalia phone rep should be able to help.

This happened to us one time coming back from Switzerland when I forgot to print the tickets in Rome before we left. (It is nonsensical!) We had to buy new tickets in Switzerland, but Trenitalia had a refund process so we got our money back. If you are forced into buying new tickets, be sure to ask the agent for any forms or process information you need. I believe (memory dims) that I had to fill out a form and scan it with receipts and email or somehow submit to TI. They refunded quite quickly.
