Fredrica, AFIK it's pronounced like "VY" ("long "I"). I've been told that "Va Via" is a more polite version.

An Italian friend of mine agrees with Ken's pronunication, VY (or maybe VYE.) He says this is the emphatic "go away," when someone's really bothering you, and hasn't taken earlier hints.

Rhymes with eye and tie. The Italian vowels are very similar to Spanish vowels, if that's any help.

Pronounced the same as English 'vie', which as noted rhymes with tie and eye. 'Vai' is the informal form of the verb so using it with a stranger could be considered abrupt or rude, which can be useful in certain situations! I've never needed to use the phrase as ignoring works perfectly well.
