How to plan one & half day in Dolomites ?

Hello,

We will be driving from Venice to Alta Badia or Cortina (not booked and decided yet). It will be evening by the time we reach, so it would be just stay. I will have next full day and then half day of following day. Third day, I will just need to drive till Merano, so first half can be given to Dolomite region.

Please help on my few questions -

  • Where should I stay ? Being very short time, should I keep two base for both nights, to see more region ?

  • Would you recommend any loop drive for both days ?

  • If I search photographic spots in Dolomite, there are so many, so really need help here, to fix my itinerary. What places would you suggest ?

We are not hikers, but short walks are fine. We will be driving. Interested in photography. If there is any place for night photography, please suggest that too.

Thanks in advance.

I'd stay 2 night in La Villa, Alta Badia.

The Giau Pass is a great drive and at the top has a wonderful cafe plus walking paths right to the Dolomite peaks. Amazing.

An easy one day loop drive:

It can be started/ended from any point really, but I'll use Alta Badia:

At Corvara, take the Campolongo Pass (SS244) to Arabba. From Arabba take the Pordoi Pass (SR48) towards Canazei. Before you get to Canazei, take the Sella Pass SS242 (or stop in Canazei and go back a bit to continue). Take the Sella Pass and at the end, get right on the Gardena Pass SS243 (they branch off one another) towards Colfosco/Alta Badia. There's a cafe/restaurant/rest stop at the "top" of the Gardena, Sella and Pordoi Passes. You'll also notice a few small places to park along the passes to get out and walk among the Dolomite peaks.

Passes and everything else have a German Name and an Italian name.
Gardena Pass - Grödnerjoch
Sella Pass - Sellajoch
Pordoi Pass - Passo di Pordoi
Campolongo Pass - Passo di Campolongo

Rainy day options could include the old towns of Bozen/Bolzano (and the excellent exhibit on the "Ice Man" at the Museum of Archaeology) or Brixen/Bressanone (and another good museum, the Diocean Museum).
