How to pack late Sept thru mid Oct

Any suggestions on what to pack for 24 Sept thru mid Oct, going from Venice, CT, Florence, Tuscany, Rome? Are light jackets OK, or do we need more than that?

This is pretty much the same time frame that we went. I had a light hoodie and a couple of long sleeve shirts, which were sufficient with a scarf for even the coldest days. But I am moderate to warm blooded.

I was in the same places, first half of October, and I never needed a jacket. On the contrary, I was very glad of the AC in my hotel room.

I was in Cinque Terre, Siena and Rome during that time period and we had gorgeous sunny weather in CT. It was warm and I wore short sleeves every day. In Siena it was cool and rainy and I wore a Smartwool sweater, a merino full-zip cardigan sweater and a raincoat. I also bought a scarf that I wore every day and it felt wonderful. The weather in Rome was slightly better than Siena but I still wore a sweater and coat every day. Layers worked for me.

It's the transition phase. Be prepared for anything like a late warm spell (80F) to early wet arctic fronts (45F).

We had almost the same itinerary last October. "Worst" day (tongue in cheek) was a 39 degree morning in Orvieto follwed by 68 degrees and sun in Rome. I took a light rain jacket with hood and used it many days. Otherwise my tops were two blouses, one long sleeve dressy tee, one 3/4 sleeve lightweight sweater, and a lightweight vest for layering. Take SmartWool socks: easy on the feet in any weather!

Carole, did you go from CT south or the other way around? We are going CT south.

i was there mid-october two years ago, and i brought a heavy sweater-coat (i believe it was an Old Navy "Cardi-Coat") and was fine wearing that with jeans or leggings and short or long sleeved t-shirts/tunics. it did get chilly in venice and CT though. i also purchased two leather jackets in Florence, and those got some immediate wear. so if you're a shopper, save space in your bag for purchases! i didn't do this, and i had to buy an additional suitcase to get everything back home.

http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/LIRQ/2010/9/24/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA Using this link to wunderground.com as one example, you can plug in your Italian city and scroll to the bottom left of the page for "history" and plug in the date(s) for your destination and use the year 2010, for example. It will give you all of the weather data and maybe a better idea what the weather is like based on last year. But of course, no guarantees, just an idea.

We were there during that time frame two years ago and it was really hot! It's just hard to predict!
