How to make the most of a very short stay near Malpensa

I arrive into Malpensa around 13'30, and must be back there around 9.30 the next day. Would like to see the lakes, or something nice..as opposed to just passing time in an airport hotel. What are the transport links like to Stressa for example? Are there any airport shuttles from there, if not, how much will a taxi cost aproximately?

There is direct bus service from the airport to Stresa on Alibus. Alibus shuttles leave from Terminal 1 at Malpensa, bus stop 22, five times daily. The bus has a sign in the window reading Verbania/Malpensa. The link to the schedule is here: www.safduemila.com. You’ll see a link to click for the English version. In Stresa the bus stops in Piazza Marconi, in front of the church, but if possible drivers. You will need to make a reservation at least 48 hours. Unfortunately the bus is currently running only April 9 through September 30.

Trains: To take the train is one step more complicated. You’ll take a bus from Malpensa to the Gallarate station and then take a train to Stresa. The bus for Gallarate is found at both Terminals 1 and 2. The Trenitalia schedule is here: www.trenitalia.com. In total this trip will take you about 2 hours and cost approximately 6 euro.

Taxis and Private Cars: Taxis can be found directly outside the terminal. Estimate the cost will be between 80 and 100 euro. You are not expected to tip. If you really want to travel in luxury you can book a private car with driver in advance, such as Milano Limo, www.milanolimo.com.

Or you could just go into Milan and check out the Duomo and it's nearby sites.
