What is the best way to go from Roma to Porto San Giorgio, Fermo, Le Marche? Let me know please if this is a 1 or 2 day trip, is it direct or do I have to travel to another town first and then make a connection. Can I make the connection in the same day or not? Does the trip involve all trains or trains and buses?
Well, you can take the train from Rome termini to Porto San Giorgio-Fermo but it takes at least 5 hours with one train change. The connection time is anywhere from 10- 40 minutes. Donna
Try this site: http://www.rome2rio.com/ It shows you your options for train, bus, drive and fly.
Try the trenitalia website and pick your from (Roma) and to (PORTO S. GIORGIO-FERMO). You'll see you can go thru Pescara or Ancona but Ancona is quicker, about 5 hours. You will have to change trains in either ase.
I am here in Porto San Giorgio. Got in yesterday afternoon. The only mistake i made was not validating both train tickets at Roma Termini. The train to Ancona was 50 minutes late leaving Termini. I had not figured that in. Surprisingly all or most connecting trains were still waiting on the tracks for us at Ancona. And the Ancona train station is big, i was connecting from the tracks and not from the station, so i was clueless on where my next train was waiting. I just asked the first trainman i saw and he said track 4 and pointed to the elevator to go up, there are 2 levels of train tracks at Ancona. Only my second ticket needed validation. I saw a validator down the tunnel away from the elevator, but i ran to it and got the job done. Ran back to the elevator, saw track 4 and just hopped on the train in the nick of time. Next time i will validate both tickets at Termini, the last thing i want to worry about is validating a ticket when there is no time to do so, it was hectic, people running everywhere, time running out, and my first time at Ancona not knowing the station at all. I have since learned that Validating both tickets at Termini is correct, Italy accommodates for late trains, of course it does, while things look new to me, I am not new to Italy, this is their business, this is what they do.
"while things look new to me...... this is their business, this is what they do"
Ah...this is the best thing I'll read all week on the Helpline. It should be printed on the inside cover of all passports!
I'm glad you got there OK. Have a great time!
