Need someone's advice as to how to get to Marco Polo airport on Monday, April 7th for a 7:10 AM (yawn!) flight. Lufthansa changed our flight, so we are scrambling. FYI, we are staying in a B&B just off St. Mark's Square....easy access to vaporettas, if they run at that hour. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
This is why we scheduled our return flight through SAS with a 23 hour layover in Copenhagen. Our flight leaves Venice at 2:50 pm which is much more civilized than that early flight we would have had to take through Lufthansa. We'll see if it works out.
Roy, if you are staying near St. Marks square, you can catch the Blue Line Alilaguna boat to the airport. They leave as early as 3:40am and arrive about 1 hr 15 minutes later. It costs 12 Euro per person. It's just a short walk from the boat dock to the airport.
I have a quick question.....what time in the morning does the vaporettas start running?
Roy, Gela is correct about the Alilaguna Blue Line. The first boat does depart at 3:40am and arrives at the airport at 5:00am. This is ample time to get checked in. Unfortunately, many people get nervous and take the expensive water taxi. It's tight but you decide.
HERE'S THE LINK to the Alilaguna site. Note the Blue Line schedule with San Marco on the top and airport on the bottom. You can even click on Blue Line to see a map.
Linda, the Vaporettos run around the clock. They have night run vaporettos. Do you have a specific origin, destination and time in mind? You can view the timetables on www.actv.it. Click on the English button.
Gee thanks Larry...no early plane for me but do want to catch an early train and was just wondering. But now I'm confused...why are people having to take an expensive water taxis to get to the airport if vaporettas run around the clock. And if I have a vaporetta 3 day pass, then it won't be anymore expensive early morning than early afternoon...right?
Linda
The vaporettos don't go to the airport. ACTV who run the vaporettos service the airport via bus from P. le Roma.
Another transportation company called Alilaguna runs a boat from Venice proper to the airport. That service is not 24 hours.
Thanks to all of you for your replies. I'm feeling (a little) better about the situation. Now I wonder if we should just stay up all night!
