We're staying in a hotel 10 mins walk west of Duomo. So it seems like we're also about 10mins walk from Cadorna train station. What is the best way to go to MXP airport? by train or by shuttle bus? If we take shuttle from Central station, we need to take the subway first. Our flight is at 2pm, what time should we leave from city center?

Unlike Milan central station which requires a bus or taxi ride to Malpensa, Cadorna actually has a train. Its called the Malpensa Express. The train runs every 30 minutes and the trip takes 40 minutes.

Larry is correct. If near Cadorna take the train. It is typical time required, probably should be there no later than 11:30 till noon which means you should be on the train by 11 or little before.

I have a similar problem.
I will be in the Alps but need to get to Malpensa for a 9:15 a.m. flight.
Trying to decide if I should get a hotel room just to sleep in or .....
Just where is Cadorna located. I would be coming from the Domodossola area. Would Cadorna be easier to reach than going to Centrale?

The train at Cadrona goes only to the airport. Your train will come into Centrale so it will be easier to stay near there and take the bus.

I agree with Jeff. Stay near the main station and take the bus. Same travel time. Just make sure that you are at least in Milan the night before and then take an early bus. The first bus out is at 4:15am. From 5:00am on, the buses run every 20 minutes. Fare is 7Euro one-way.
