Hi. What is the best way to go to Amalfi from Capri? We will be spending 2 nights in Capri in July and I have a couple days open to spend in Amalfi or Positano. We are a family of four, (we do not have young children so they are well versed in traveling by any mode). I obviously have to take a ferry to leave Capri. Suggestions where to go and stay for 2 nights before we head to Rome?
Also, we were then planning on taking a train to Rome. Do you think we need train tickets in advance? Thank you.
If this July, anywhere you can find availability.
I would consider staying on Capri longer, as you can day trip to Amalfi or Positano just as easily as you do the reverse. Just something to consider!
Are you choosing just between Amalfi and Positano, or do you have interest in other places?
Most on this board seem to prefer Amalfi.
There's good train service to Rome from Salerno, and most reports here say Salerno is not as shoulder to shoulder packed as Positano and Amalfi town, but is beautiful and charming. I wish we had considered Salerno last year for our AC trip, as the crowds were terrible, even in May. Have a great trip.
If you have any interest in Paestum stay in Salerno
You can see Positano from the ferry-or stop there for a quick look
You have to change in Amalfi anyway-get off see the town have lunch then hop ferry to Salerno
Enjoy the lovely waterfront/beach and non touristy town
Next day train to Paestum then enjoy the wonderful passegiatta in Salerno that evening
In the am take fast direct train to Rome
Purchasing tix in advance for train to Rome as long as you are firm in your dates and time can save you some money
Or purchase day of at Base Rate
Is there a ferry directly to Positano, Amalfi, and or Salerno from Capri?
Thank you!
