How to get from Sorrento to Amafi Coast

What is the best way to get from Sorrento to the Amafi Coast. We will be staying in Sorrento for 4 days. Is the best way, bus, train or boat. Also about what time does the public transportation stop, for the trip back from Amafi to Sorrento. We will be in Sorrento in mid September

Thanks Tom

Be more specific. Amafi Coast is a region, a very long strip of highway. Exactly where do you want to go? There are public buses that run the entire length.

Click on the link I sent you. Then click on "Choose your route" and you will see Amalfi-Ravello and Ravello- Amalfi bus schedules. There are no trains, and if there is a boat, it is dependent on the calmness of the sea, or lack thereof.

Our favorite way to get from Sorrento to other towns (Positano, Amalfi, Naples, etc) is by boat, if weather permits. It's fun and relaxing. And, depending on where you live, not something you can do at home.

Ravello is generally accessible only from the town of Amalfi, so you change public busses there. Ravello is high on a hill.

Perhaps it will be less crowded in September than at the height of the season, but Positano is always crowded. The SITA bus line in Sorrento can be more people than will fit on the next bus. In high season, Rick Steves (travel writer) reports that the SITA bus back to Sorrento, which originates in Amalfi, sometimes fails to stop in Positano on the way back, because it is already full!

You didn't mention the most expensive option, but some people hire a car and driver (because it is so hard to park, and the single two-lane road is so crowded.) That's what we did, 245 Euros for 8 hours.

Ravello is by bus from/to Amalfi, or by taxi. You can take a ferry from Amalfi to Positano, and another ferry to Sorrento.
