How to get from Naples Boat Dock to Herculaneum

I will be taking the ferry from Sorrento to Naples & would then like to proceed to Herculaneum. What is the best way to get from the dock to Herculaneum? Thank you for your suggestions.

Have you considered simply taking the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Ercolano Scavi (which is Herculaneum)? Otherwise, you can take the Circumvesuviana to Ercolano or pay a cab driver about 70 euros to take you there and then wait for you.

Celeste, I heard that taking the ferry to Naples is much more scenic than the circumvesuviana train & since I'll be taking the circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples en route to Rome on another day, I figured it would be more scenic & photoworthy to take the ferry. I'm wondering if there are taxi stands near the dock & how much a taxi would cost from the dock to Herculaneum. I'll be self-touring Herculaneum in the morning & then proceeding to Pompeii for an afternoon tour & then I'll take the circumvesuviana train back to Sorrento at the end of the day.

I haven't actually done this but I would do it if I could. I have taken a boat from Naples to Positano and it was a very good way to see some sites you wouldn't normally see. I find boats advisable for lots of Italy sight seeing, like 5 Terre. Do visit Heculaneum, I found it more interesting than Pompeii
