How to get from Milan to Lake Como

What is recommended (fastest and easiest) on how to get from Milan to Lake Como? Should we go by Train or Taxi? What is the cost of each? Once we get to Lake Como, how do we get to our hotel?

Train,of course. It is some distance and a taxi would be very costly. Once there take a taxi or walk.

Don't know taxi cost from Milano. Where is your hotel? Lake Como has a couple of cities on the train route.

Train is a regionale, departs Milano Centrale almost every hour, 6.50Euro one way from Milano to Varenna, the most popular train destination on this board for Lake Como. You can take the same train to Como (city) for a little less money and a little less time (travel time is just over one hour to 1.5 hours Milano Cle-Varenna).

Direct trains from Milano Centrale to Varenna are every 2 hours. It costs 6.45 and the journey is just over one hour. Hotels are walking distance of the station (official name: Varenna-Esino). Trains to Como (Nord Lago station on the lake front) go from Milano Cadorna station every hour, cost 4.55 and the journey is just over one hour.

michelle,

It would really help to know where on Lago di Como your end destination is? Could you provide more specific information? It's impossible to provide either transportation information or how to get to your hotel without more detail.

We haven't decided on a hotel yet in Lake Como. I'm just thinking in general how to get from Milan to Lake Como. Do you have any recommendations for hotels that you liked?
