How to fly- Into Milan our Rome, or Into Rome out Milan?

Prices are about the same- I think we found a $2 USD difference. Does anyone have preference? Is one easier to leave from or arrive at? It might not matter at all but if any of yall have had good or bad experiences with it please let me know.
Thanks!

Check the time for the return flight to the U.S. A downside to departing from Milan is that it can be a bit expensive to get to Malpensa (where most flights back to the U.S. depart from) from Milan city center early in the morning. Taxi fare from the city is very high. Rome is a little bit easier to depart from in the morning.

I saved quite a bit of money by flying into Milan and leaving from Rome. Check the prices.

I flew into Milan (Malpensa) and out of Rome in October and found that to be an easy choice (not to say the reverse wouldn't be, however). My flight arrived in Milan at 6am and I was through customs in 30 minutes, following Rick's advice to only have carry-on (which I highly recommend). Took the bus to the central Milan train station - it is a haul and took an hour. Leaving Italy, I flew out of Rome from Fiumicino (FCO). The Leonardo express is a train from Termini to the airport, the trip takes 30 minutes and leaves you right at the termina. Couldn't be easier, trains left at :22 and :52 after the hour starting at 6am.
