How to extend travel on train to next stop

My travel agent purchased a train ticket from Bologna to Venice for me but the ticket is through to Venice Mestre and when I had looked at the schedule it stopped in Venice S. Lucia. The discrepancy was she purchased it on Rail Europe and I was looking on Trenitalia. Instead of having to get off in Venice Mestre and purchase a ticket on another train to Venice S Lucia, what can I do to stay on the same train? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Some trains terminate in Mestre and don't go on to Venice SL - if you use option #1, make sure your train goes to Venice Santa Lucia. Given the small cost for the ticket to Venice SL (if you buy it before you board the train in Bologna or from the conductor once you are on the train, or from the kiosk/ticket window in Mestre), you can just chalk this up to inconvenient experience.

Nigel got it. Make the travel agent do it right. They should at the very least by you another ticket on the same train from Mestre to to Santa Lucia. The agent should be able to get that for 9 euro pp. Out of their own pocket of course. And clue them in on using trenitalia.com for their clients.

You are right and she has made an oopsie. What can you do to stay on the same train? Make the travel agent correct the mistake she made. It is a shame that she is making a fee for charging you more to the wrong destination than you could have paid on your own in 10 minutes. If you have been on Trenitalia you will probably have seen that there are either Super Economy or Economy tickets for very little money if you have, as it appears, booked some time out. When's the trip?

Do you know if it is a Regional Train ticket or a High Speed Train ticket? Mostly all of the trains going to S.Lucia will stop in Mestre. You can either do 1 of 3 things. 1- When you board the train in Bologna seek out a conductor and tell him you want to go to S.Lucia and not Mestre. You'll pay an extra 1-2 euro for the difference in cost. 2- Get off the train in Mestre and purchase a ticket across the lagoon and jump on the next train departing. The trip will be cheap, 1-2 euro.
3 - You can risk paying a fine and just stay on the train. Don't get off in Mestre. it's a 2-3 minute train ride from Mestre across the lagoon to S.Lucia. I don't know the conductors will be walking around at this point checking tickets still. if they are you get a fine. I would try option 1 when you get there.

Mestre to SL is about 9-10 minutes on a fast train. Up to 12 on a Regionale. Better to get it taken care of immediately. You are paying your "agent" to do things right.

As if the occupation of travel agent weren't endangered enough, here one goes and makes an absolute rookie mistake.

And P.S. Don't use that travel agent again.

And to add a little insult to injury. It appears your travel agent purchased it through Rail Europe which means you paid a premium and got nothing extra in returning. If you were already using Trenitalia then why use the agent?

Becky, In this case, there were two mistakes which added to the problem..... 1.) Ticket was bought from Rail Europe 2.) A Travel Agent was used who didn't know what she was doing This may be a fairly easy problem to rectify. Could you provide information on the date you'll be travelling on that train, departure time, etc. This will probably cost you a bit extra, but is the easiest solution. As you're leaving this weekend, you may not have time for the Travel Agent to deal with this. As she doesn't appear to be too "switched on", it may be safer to handle the problem on your own. Happy travels!

Becky, I'll need a bit more information - departure time from Bologna and Train No. Thanks!
