How to dial an Italian number from my cell in Italy?!

Hi all!

Everyone has been so helpful thus far with any questions!! I have a random question.

I am reading the RS guide on how to dial Italian #s. However, what I am uncertain of is how I dial using my American cell phone while I am physically in Italy. I will need to do this once or twice to reach out to in-keepers in small towns so they know to meet us, and already purchased an international package.

With an American cell, while in Italy and calling an Italian number do I:

A) Dial as if I am in the US still cell my phone's number is a US number and do: 011-39-italian number?

OR

B) Dial as if I'm using an Italian number (i.e. will my phone pick up service from an Italian tower) and do: 00-39- italian number?

Also, if I am dialing the in-keeper's cell phone is the "00" code ok or do I have to do a "+"

Thank you so so much in advance!!

From my US cellphone ( carrier AT&T) I dialed +39 and then the Italian number. There may be a zero you have to drop.

Thanks so much! I have AT&T too so that's what I'll do. to make a "+" you just hold down the 0 button on the keypad.

Precede the foreign number by the sign + and your phone will work in any country.

Therefore a number in Florence (area code 055) should be dialed + 39 055 555-5555

Do not drop the 0 in the area code of Florence. That was the case in the early 1990's but no longer.

If you store your numbers as +cc then number (+12135551234 in the US, +39nnnnnnnnnnn in Italy, +442071234567 in UK, etc.,), you don't need to think about it wherever you are in the world - just dial from the memory.

I use an iPhone, store my numbers that way and let SIRI do all the dialing for me.

Thanks for the reminder to put all the hotel / apartment / car rental contact numbers in the phone I will be using in Europe!
