How to buy plane/train tickets while still in USA

Flying into Rome in Sept and want to go directly to Venice without staying over night in Rome. Would like to fly to Venice but can't get the cheap ($30) flight if I try to book it from here. They wanted to charge me $600 for the same flight! Also can't book the train on trenitalia.com. I absolutely have to have a reservation made before I get to Italy. Suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi Claire,

Are you saying that you found an airline that will give you a $30 flight from Rome to Venice but you cannot book it from the US? Which airline is it?

As for the trains, you do not need an advanced reservation as there will be seats available. They charge the mandatory reservation fee as more of a surcharge to take the higher-quality high-speed (and properly air-conditioned) Eurostar Italia trains. The reservation fee would not be required if it were only to make sure the seats do not get filled up.

To get the tickets, just go to the train station and buy them from the ticket windows, or use the automated ticket machines. There is a great step-by-step user guide for these machines located here on the roninrome.com website.

It's Easy Jet. It's now listed in the $50 range. Unfortunately it only leave early in the morning and around 6 pm which won't work for me. the other airlines are charging in the $400 range. It's really unbelievable but I was just on a web booking site and there it was.

Yes, I found the same thing. You can try on the EasyJet site directly to see if you will get any better luck for more flexible times, and overall price.
