How share a car tour of Amalfi coast from Sorrento with several other couples

We will be in Sorrento for five days in mid-May. Are very interested in a car/van tour of Amalfi Coast (would prefer over the large bus tours); but find that it's pretty expensive for just my wife and myself. It appears many of these tours might run 8 or 9 hours. Are there ways of setting up ahead of time a tour that might include 1 or 2 other couples that could share the expense? We'd be interested in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello to be included in the tour. Are there specific tour companies that we could contact? Or is it relatively easy to get on a tour of this nature after we have arrived in Sorrento.

Amalfi coast is a beautiful drive and also a white knuckle drive due to many hairpin turns along the cliffs of the Amalfi coast. It is gorgeous scenery.
We took a hydrofoil boat from Naples which stopped at Sorrento and then carried on down the coast to the local ports on the way. It was stress free and awesome trip. We decided to get off at Positano and stayed there then returned by local bus to Sorrento and ferried back to Naples. An option to consider!

I am also interested in ways to see the Amalfi Coast with just 2 people. Could you elaborate a bit on the Naples to Sorrento, etc. travel that you mentioned? How did you find out about the hydrofoil? Did you take luggage with you? How many days did you find adequate to visit this area?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

You have not specified how much you are willing to spend, however there is a very cheap option and that is the frequent buses that go back and forth between Sorrento and Amalfi. If you want to go beyond Amalfi, you can change buses and go all the way to Salerno if you want. Along the way there you could get off at any stop along the way, including Positano, which is beautiful. The cost is puny, just €7.60 per person for 24 hrs of riding buses along the coast.
The bus timetable is below, however for now they only have posted the winter schedule, so you might want to check later in the spring:

A private all day (8 hour) tour will cost you hundreds of Euro in May. Obviously paying for a car and a driver's full day of work is not going to be cheap. It would be like using a taxi for an 8 hour trip.

If the bus doesn't work for you, you can rent a car for a day. Sorrento has several rental offices. I'm sure you can rent a compact for under €60/day (inclusive of no deductible insurance) plus fuel. However consider that parking along the coast comes at a premium (€25/day or several €/hr), and on weekends parking would be hard to find at any price.

Let me add also the boat options. If you want you can take a boat from Sorrento to Positano and to Amalfi. However some of these don't operate all year around (mostly only from June through Sept and only weather permitting), therefore you need to check for the time you are traveling. The companies are the following:

Take a look at this maximum of 16 passengers tour offered by the Sorrento company Golden Tours. As it is for so few passengers it might be wise to book beforehand. May in Sorrento is very popular with us Northern Europeans looking for some early summer sun! We have used this company on and off over the years and have no complaints.
