How much time needed between landing in Rome and flying to Palermo?

Our itnerary has changed, we initially planned to fly into Rome and spend a few days there and then go to Sicily. However, now we need to fly to Palermo once we land in Rome. We land in Rome at 7:15am and will not be checking bags. If we booked a flight departing for Palermo at 11:30am, do you think that is enough time? Thanks!

That should be enough time, you likely will need to change terminals, depending what airline you choose.

As always, separate bookings carry risks, if you are delayed on your flight over, you may forfeit your ticket to Palermo. You might want some type of flex option on the ticket.

Also with Carry On only, if you switch to a budget carrier, or even just a European carrier, verify baggage weight and size limits. While you might carry on for your US-Rome flight, you might need to check a bag to Palermo.

That surely must be enough time, if you have the times correct in your posting. Although you likely leave from a different terminal, you will have 4 1/2 hours to get there. We are doing the same thing March 11 and only have 1 1/2 hours between landing in Rome and leaving for Palermo. Of course I realize flights can be late, but that is unpredictable.

That sounds like plenty of time.
Last April I had an hour and 10 minutes for the same flight connections….I had carryon luggage, and made it, though I did move fast between gates.
It’s a long walk.
I did have a “Plan B” in case I missed the Palermo flight.

Thanks all - this is making me feel better! And appreciate the tips (like checking luggage size). Right now it is looking like we'll fly Ryan Air from Rome to Palermo.

be sure you read the requirements and rules (carry-on weight, size, ways to check-in for your flight and cutoff times, checked baggage weight and where to hand it off, various fees, etc.) very carefully. RyanAir is going to enforce every bit of them to the letter. The people who complain are the ones that think they'll let things slide the way many US carriers will.

RyanAir is by far the strictest airline about check-in times, having printed your own boarding pass, and luggage sizes and weights. Be sure to comply 100% with all of their rules, or you will pay extra.
