How much time for Murano and Burano?

We are staying in Venice for one night and want to visit Murano and Burano on the second day before leaving to Rome on a train. I want to purchase train tickets ahead of time to save. How much time would you suggest to allow? Will we make 14.26 ot 15.30 train? We are pretty early risers.

Thank you

While in Burbank, also go to Torcello, doesn’t take much time. Historical.

We spent a whole day traveling by vaporetto to Murano, Burano and Torcello.

A whole day would be ample for Murano, Burano and Torcello. Torcello is fabulous as it is generally not very crowded and as the place where Venice was first settled by the Romans has great historical significance.

My suggestion - perhaps give these a miss. The vaporetto ride from Venice to Burano is 45 minutes. Coming back can be even longer, because the line for the No 12 can be very long, and you might have to wait for the next vap. Once you arrive back in Venice, you are at Fond. Nove, still half an hour from the station.

Download the app Che Bateo, which links to the vaporetto timetables. Handy for planning your trip.

If you book that 15:30 train I’d be on the vaporetto from Burano no later than 1:30
It takes a long time, then the long walk from Fond. Nova to station
We’ve always skipped Murano and just go to Burano and Torcello but that still takes a good couple hours.
The lines for vaporetto leaving Burano were crazy last time (end of May) Check the schedule for your return vaporetto when you arrive and get back to the dock a good 20 min before departure.

We do enjoy Burano but if only had 1 night in Venice, I’d skip
Just go wander around the back canals, visit some lesser sights instead if you really need to be on that train.

Thank you very much for replies.

Isn't there a vaporetto #3 that is quicker and goes to the train station?

We are staying near St Mark's. So my plan was to take vaporetto from there to Burano, then to Murano and come back directly to St Lucia.

Do you think it is not doable in 6 hrs?

Thanks

What about your luggage? Don't you have to go back and retrieve it?

We are planning on leaving our luggage at the train station at the left luggage when we get there. We will only have a small overnight backpack. So no backtracking.

Another idea to save time: We skipped Murano and went to Burano and Torcello. We took the early boat to Burano>Torcello. We arrived in Burano before the crowds arrived. We absolutely loved both places.

Honestly, your visit is so short, I would spend the time in Venice. My first time in Venice, I did exactly what you are suggesting, but didn’t have time to see inside St Marks, the Hall of Doges or any of the fantastic palaces, which I think was a mistake. Next year I will be bringing two of my grandkids, and will spend our entire two days wandering the island of Venice doing all of the above, riding the vaporettos, and just experiencing the island.
