How Frequent Are Trains From Venice to Rome in Late October?

I am planning on traveling throughout Italy in late October 2012. I am using the DB Bahn website to find train schedules in order to plan accordingly. Based on books and blogs I am reading, I think there are frequent trains running between the two cities. However, according to the DB Bahn website, it is only bringing up a departure time for 3 in the morning, which I don't want to do. Is it the website or are there not frequent trains during this time of year? Thanks in advance for the help!

The train schedules are rarely posted more than about 90 days in advance and sometimes maybe 60. So that is why you are not seeing any schedules for Oct - way too early. Since schedules rarely change from quarter to quarter just use the same day of the week and choice the dates for next week or next month.

The best place to see Italian train schedules is Trenitalia.com. With government uncertainty, who knows what the train schedules will be in October. It's a great time to visit, however. I would say that trains are as frequent as every couple hours, generally speaking. You won't have any problem riding rail to Rome, and many of the trains on this route are "fast trains." Trains seldom ever sell out except during the biggest holidays. You could easily wait until you get into Venice, and then buy your reserved tickets for the day of your departure. See RoninRome.com for explanations on train travel, including how to work the ticket kiosks in the train stations. He also has great tour info for Rome.

Katie, There are Venice - Rome departures about once per hour, so you shouldn't have any difficulty getting a seat. As the others have mentioned, the schedules for October won't be posted yet, but shouldn't change much between now and then. Use the Trenitalia website for researching rail trips in Italy. Most of the seats on that route will be with reserved seating, so I'd suggest buying your ticket at least one day before you'll be travelling as you may be able to qualify for the discounted "Mini" fare. Happy travels!
